Well, the last time I saw Sarah, she was smoking in her car
She yelled out from her window to me.
She tried to make some small talk, but I was running late for work
So I just smiled and waved and kept on walking away

I hope that she’s okay, but I think that she was high
She ain’t the same Sarah we used to know
After graduation came she ran off for the city
Now she’s back in town and probably looking some friends

Remember when we used to hang out in her mother’s basement
Long before the drugs and liquor chased us
Long before the bullshit nine to fives or the bloated shaky hands
We used to make out in a closet and hold each other’s hands

We thought that she was fine, but she had started getting high
It was sophomore year when she started seeing Richard
After graduation came, we heard they stole some credit cards
But now she’s back in town again, and smoking in her car

The last time I saw Sarah she was smoking in her car
I wish I stopped and asked how she was living
Because we were close so long ago, and why I didn’t I don’t know
Bullshit ain’t a gift that keeps on giving

I hope that she’s okay, most likely she was high
She ain’t the same girl I used know
After graduation came things got pretty dark
But Sarah’s back in town again, and smoking in her car
